Rainmaker Festival 2006

The Rainmaker Festival's mission is to remember and honor the late Alvin Reynolds III, to raise funds for individuals in emergency need as well as for organizations committed to assisting families and children, and to promote community fellowship through the enjoyment of quality roots and Americana music.

Now in its fourth year, Rainmaker 2006 is scheduled for Sunday, September 10 at Legend Pub and Brewery, from 1 PM to 10 PM. Eleven bands will play on indoor and outdoor stages, 'whatever the will of the weather.' Featured bands include Page Wilson with Reckless Abandon, The Gary Gerloff Band, Brad Spivey and The Honky Tonk Experience, and NRG KRYSIS with The Goodfellas.

Raffle winners will be announced throughout the day and guests are invited to participate in a silent auction. Legend will make quality food and beverages available. Children are welcome.

"Rainmaker, to me, symbolizes all that is good about music: camaraderie, good pickin, an earthy feel that derives from the roots of music and that tingle down your spine you get when someone up on stage hits the right note. I attended Rainmaker the past 2 occasions and walked away both times feeling energized and satisfied. I was so taken with the idea of their mission and the good vibes that coursed through Legend, that this year I decided to join the organizing end of it. This year I will be on the front lines and I am so jazzed to watch as it all unfolds. We'll have everything from auctioned tomatoes to banjos to cold beer to good eats to a warm spirit of community - all under one roof. Music is the healer, people. So if you have an ache in your soul and/or a song in your heart, come out and feel the magic."

With many organizers and performers having been close friends with Alvin, another core value of the event is sharing music and raising funds in a manner that Al would respect and which memorializes his life. At each Rainmaker Festival, his wife Mary Nelson, his daughter Laura, and other close family members are the event's guests of honor.

The Rainmaker Festival 2006 is scheduled for Sunday, September from 1PM to 10PM at Legend Brewery. Ten bands will provide music on two stages, rain or shine, and ten bands. Children are welcome. The fundraising part of the event features an ongoing raffle and silent auction, with lots of assistance from Plan 9 Records. Food and beverages are available for purchase from Legend, who represents the gold standard of microbrewed beer in Virginia and beyond.
