Greater Richmond SCAN (Stop Child Abuse Now) is a local nonprofit organization dedicated solely to the prevention and treatment of child abuse and neglect in the Greater Richmond area. SCAN was founded in 1991 in response to the rapidly growing rate of child abuse and neglect in the City of Richmond and its surrounding counties.

How does SCAN help keep children safe?
By providing the awareness, support and education needed to enhance the lives of children. SCAN's services promote positive parenting, strengthen families and help create a community that values and cares for its children.

Reach Out and Read Virginia is committed to collaboratively developing and sustaining Reach Out and Read (ROR) programs throughout the state so that all of Virginia's children grow up with books and a love of reading. The Richmond Animal League, Inc. is Richmond's oldest non-profit, no-kill humane society. Richmond Animal League will be the leader in Chesterfield County in providing homeless animals with temporary housing, medical treatment, sterilization, and quality care until they are adopted to permanent, loving homes. Our commitment to no-kill will be promoted through educational programs that teach the importance of spay/neuter, responsible pet ownership, and compassion for companion animals.

WRIR, Richmond Indie Radio, is a fresh new voice, on the air since January 1, 2005. We broadcast music you DON'T hear on the radio dial with LIVE LOCAL DJ's doing REAL LIVE SHOWS. In addition to our locally produced music shows, we offer a wide range of National and Local news programming that covers issues unrepresented by other media.

We are also a true community radio station. That means-
-We are locally owned, and by charter can never be bought out by any non local entity.
-The station is operated by volunteers from the Richmond community. Our staff consists of your neighbors playing music, sharing news and operating the station.

Thank you for listening.

The James River Association was established by a group of concerned citizens living along the Lower James River in 1976 as the Lower James River Association. In the mid-1990's, its name changed to the present James River Association in an effort to include the entire James River watershed.

The mission of the James River Association is to be guardian of the James River. We provide a voice for the river and take action to promote conservation and responsible stewardship of its natural resources.

Our Mission is to ensure that individuals and families have the freedom, information and ability to make their own informed reproductive choices.

We believe that...

Each individual has a basic right to control his/her reproductive life
Individual control will lead to a better quality of life and stronger families and communities
Reproductive health decisions must be voluntary and private

"In the end, Planned Parenthood is much more than a set of health services and advocacy strategies. Planned Parenthood is an idea. It is a moral vision about wanted children, respect and equality for women, healthy families, sexual responsibility, and the individual's right to make reproductive choices without outside interference." --- Gloria Feldt
